O ile motyw noszenia dwóch zegarków był mi znany, o tyle nie natknęłam się na podwójne szale. Zresztą zwykle noszę tylko szaro- panterkową wersję. Dziś bynajmniej nie próbowałam być oryginalna, powód był prozaiczny- nie mogłam znaleźć mojego ciepłego szala, a wychodzenie na zewnętrz jedynie z cienką apaszką na szyi nie wydało mi się mądrym pomysłem biorąc pod uwagę ekstramalne warunki pogodowe. Efekt całkiem interesujący.

Poniżej część mojego eseju na temat przedstawień kobiecośći w magazaynach typu Cosmo i Marie Claire. Powstał z przyczyn uniwersyteckich a samo zagadnienie- choćby 'pozornie' dozwolony kobiecy cross- dressing w dzisiejszej kulturze- naprawdę ciekawe.

Articles in women's magazines are placing emphasis on confidence and freedom of their potential reader. However, this textual construction does not go hand in hand with images of originally or boyish looking females. There is a serious lack of pictures depicting girls who are not gentle and ladylike. Why strong, 'though' women are not supporting the articles about such? Photographs presenting pierced, queer or boyish models are, in fact, extremely rare and seems to be just a tiny drop in the sea of long- hair, slender beauties. It seems like we live in times of total freedom, when it comes to manners or custom, but it doesn't necessarily mean the same regarding female look. There are certain rules which must be obey if one want to be fashionable and trendy. In connection to that, there aren't many alternative choices or variety of looks to choose between for a woman if she would like to be consider attractive.

I can see a huge contrast between this emphasized cult of independence and amount of content connected to sexual and emotional relationships. Numerous advices on 'how to keep a guy' are calling into a question actual independence of its readers. What is significant is that homosexuality seems not to exist in 'Cosmo' world. R. Coward points it out accurately , when talking about specific features of Cosmopolitam magazine : (…) the form of sexuality addressed is aggressively heterosexual and liberated'. ( Coward, 52).

What I found interesting in women's magazines was attempts made by it to reaffirm definition of beauty. There is a constant talk going on, that everyone can look stylish and cool if only will put some effort in it. No matter how you look like, you can feel comfortable and sexy with your own body- great look is achievable to everyone (Marie Claire, 2009,104-110). Although, there is a certain knowledge that needs to be gain to obtain glamorous look. Women's magazines are here to help their readers, giving tips and advices supporting this 'endless pursuit of femininity' (Inness, 1994). What to wear, how, what to buy, where, which cosmetics use - in 'Cosmo' you'll find all the answers.

'Women's magazines must carefully negotiate how to present women in attire that appears mannish', says Sherrie. Author claims, that there is a place for 'though' girls images in women magazines only if they are represented in particular ways to disavow the inherent linkage between them and lesbianism. I thought this statement has no meaning nowadays, when we can came across images of androgenic women quite often. To my surprise, I had to verify my thesis after skimming trough 'Como's' and ''Marie Clare'. Inness's theories seemed to be up to date even after all years that passed from the time she wrote her article. I can't deny the existence of that precise negotiation how to show women who cross-dress or who, for some reason, can appear as 'though'.

Keira Knightly starring in Chanel advert wears white shirt and suspenders, (Marie Claire, 2009,16) but no one will confuse her with male- her long hair and make-up clearly states what her gender is. Similarly, Bonjours model is shown in tuxedo and has a short haircut, however is wearing a lipstick, symbol of her femininity ( Cosmopolitan,2009, 213). Boyish- looking female model from Jean Paul Gaultier perfume add is kissing a men, so she cannot be consider lesbian (Cosmopolitan,2009, 75). As Inness puts it 'man acts as a signifier of heterosexuality' in that case. According to her, there are proper ways how to show and describe leather fashions in magazines aimed at women . This fabric can appear masculine or even too rough to many , as it associate with bikers and, generally speaking, 'bad boys'. Women's magazines are trying to reshape that image and makes it more gentle by emphasizing the model sexuality and her femininity (Inness, 1994). I had to agree with that statement as well. Picture of model I found, wearing leather cat-suit is probably as far from being described as 'though' as it can get (Marie Claire,2009, 55).

What is femininity like nowadays? What kind of image of womanhood emerges from 'Cosmo' or 'Marie Clare' ? There are no clear answers for that, as it's always hard to simply describe such complex issues. Although I have to admit that there are no significant changes made in terms of presenting 'though' woman images. I found Inness theories accurate even though she based her research on 90's magazines. Situation remains particularly the same, which can be seen as a proof of how slowly social changes are being made. It might take much more time than we think Besides that, I reckon that there are not many versions of womanhood being promoted in those magazines- there is no place for gay women or androgenic girls. If they appear, they remain an exception, just a deviation from a rule, which doesn't renounce the images of feminine models. Quite the contrary, appearance of one even highlights the incredible amount of pictures depicting womanish girls. To quote Inness: '(…) women magazines limit the threat posed by toughness in women by suggesting that toughness should not and does not interfere with a woman's adherence to femininity'. Masculine- style clothing is not presented as an equal alternative to feminine dresses. It continues to be just a theatrical display, sort of masquerade. Women who cross- dress will probably remain minority. (Inness, 1994).

Na jednej, niepozornej rzeczy może opierać się cała garderoba. Przypomniałam sobie o tym dość niedawno, zakochując się w zeszłym sezonie w czarnych 'skórzanych' leginsach, które niedawno zastąpiłam innymi, z american apparel. (Nawiasem mówiąc- szkoda, że rzeczy w apparelu są takie drogie..kiedyś trzeba będzie je zwrócić prawowitej właścicielce).

Poniżej moja nowa miłość- Freja Beha Ericcsen. Na każdym ze zdjęć w czarnych rurkach. Jest w niej coś niesamowitego, nawet w tak zwyczajnych, pozbawionym dodatków stylizacjach wygląda uroczo. I za każdym razem- zupełnie inaczej.

Nowy sezon, nowe trendy. O tym, co mi się nie podobało pisać nie będę (coraz słabsze, z kolekcji na kolekcję Chanel. Karl chyba cierpi na brak inspiracji). Jestem za to pod ogromnym wrażeniem Rodarte- jak trafnie ujął mój przyjaciel "ciekawa zabawa materiałem i fakturą". Sukienka "łachman"- podarta, związana, w wersji monochromatycznej to mój typ. Nowoczesna, nieco ekstrawagancka elegancja.

Nie jest tajemnicą, że wbrew nazwie większość zdjęć na tzw. blogach streestylowych nie ma wiele wspólnego ze stylem zwykłych, szarych ludzi nie związanych z modą. Wręcz przeciwnie- choćby na facehunterze roi się od zdjęć modelek "incognito" czy też popularnych fashion blogerów, złapanych w drodze na kolejny pokaz paryskiego tygodnia mody. Nic więc dziwnego, że na Kate Lanphear natknęłam się już kilkakrotnie, do tej pory nie wiedząc kim jest owa pani.

Kate- senior style editor amerykańskiego "Elle" trudno też nie zapamiętać. Prosty, elegancki styl i całkowita wierność czerni, bieli i szarości. Świetna.

Chyba każda osoba choć trochę zainteresowana modą zauważyła obecność "cekinowego" trendu w pokazach na nadchodzący sezon. (Na mojej wishlist miałam czarne, cekinowe legginsy, szczęśliwie odnalezione w h&mie). Projektanci, poczynając od świetnej ( i już rozsławionej) kolekcji Balmaina po Gucciego proponują błysk i szyk rodem z lat 80.

Cekiny nie muszą oznaczać sukienki i wielkiego wyjścia- wbrew pozorom nadają się również na codzień. Połączenie ich z zupełnie prostymi, "podstawowymi" ciuchami podoba mi się najbardziej.

Translation: I guess every fashionista realized already what a huge trend sequins are in this season. 80's chic seems to appeard on every runway show- from awsome Balmain collection to Gucci. This shiny fabric is not reserved for evening dresses only- it works also with basic pices.(I love how effortlessly fashionable swedish can be. ) Definately I need to add a sequined skirt to my whishlist.

Jeśli miałabym wybrać jeden trend nadchodzącego sezonu, którego fanką absolutnie nie jestem (i pewnie nie zostanę) wybrałabym tzw. wężową skórę. Okazało się, że i w tym przypadku powiedzenie "nie ważne co nosisz, ważne jak" ma sens.

Translation: If I had to choose one new season trend I am definately NOT a fan of, with no doubts I would indicate at snake skin pattern. When I googled it I found those pics. Once again saying that "it doesn't matter what you wear, it matters how" made a perfect sense to me.

Podczas robienia tzw. letnich porządków znalazłam naprawdę starą sukienkę w paski, której z jakiegoś nieznanego mi powodu nigdy nie nosiłam. Po zrobieniu paru krawieckich poprawek (dzięki mamie i jej maszynie ;p) okazała się conajmniej zdatna do noszenia.

Translation: While doing summer- cleaning I found this really old, vintage striped dress. For some unknown reason I had never wore it, but after making a few, little improvements (thanks to mum's great sewing skills!) it turned out to be quite adorable.

Nigdy nie byłam fanką szerokich, krótkich koszulek wziętych żywcem z końca lat 80. Co prawda ten "look" stał się popularny dzięki takim trendsetterkom jak Pixie Geldof czy Alice Dellal, ale wydawał mi się zbyt wulgarny. O dziwo, zmieniłam zdanie. Zmusiła mnie do tego świetna kolekcja Philipa Lima- połączenie krótkiej bluzki z wysoką, elegancko marszczoną spódnicą..istna rewelacja. Polubiłam też asymetryczne (krótkie z przodu i długie z tyłu) t- shirty. Niestety, Lindsay Lohan nie pokazała, jak powinno się je nosić. Tak czy inaczej, czekam na "rozpowszechnienie" się tego kroju w sklepach i co za tym idzie- na ulicach.

Translation: I've never been a great fan of this wide, 80's inspired, short t- shirts which become quite trendy some time ago, popularized mainly by such celebs as Pixie Geldof or Alice Dellal. It seemed to be to much- showing your belly in the public. I changed my mind from now on and Philip's Lim made me to do it! It turned out that the t-shirt combined with high- waisted skirt makes an elegant but also a little nonshalant look I totally adore.

I also like asymetric, long in the back and short in the front, tees. Great, new shape which was not working for Lindsay Lohan unfortunately. Nevertheless, I cannot wait to see this style on somebody else and on the street of course.
